Dr. Amy L. Slavensky, Superintendent of Schools

Spring/Summer 2018

Dear Parents, Guardians, Students, Colleagues & Community Partners,AMY

In the words of William Arthur Ward, “Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.”  It has been my joy and pleasure to serve in our wonderful community now for nearly two years. Each day, I experience transformative moments of gratitude as I visit schools and classrooms and see our amazing students, teachers and staff in action.  Ours is truly a wonderful community. Just take a look at our Facebook page from time to time and you will see the joy of accomplishment in so many faces and improvement projects!

‘Tis the season for 2018-19 planning and we are fully engaged!  Recruiting, hiring and staffing, ordering textbooks and materials, LCAP and budget planning are all well on their way.  If you have questions about any aspect of this work, please call my office at 257-5353 and we will put you in touch with the right person who can support you.

During the month of May, we love to celebrate our staff!  Each of you plays a vital role in the work of educating and supporting our students. I’m thankful for our classified and confidential staff members who daily go above and beyond to make sure every detail in support of students is given the attention it needs. I’m thankful for our dedicated counselors, nurses, therapists, and psychologists who daily help our students overcome personal challenges so they can better focus on learning. I’m thankful for our strong leaders who persevere through challenging times with passion and dedication to the teams and communities they lead. I’m thankful for our teachers who daily plan, teach, monitor progress, intervene, and support our students to ensure their success – socially, emotionally, behaviorally, and academically. I’m thankful for our parents and guardians who are their children’s first teacher, who support the well-being and education of their children around the clock! And I am thankful for the members of our Board of Trustees who provide guidance and governance support every step of the way for the sake of all students.

Thank you for your ongoing support for the sake of all students as we continue to prepare, support, and inspire each student!

Sincerely,

Amy L. Slavensky, Ph.D., Superintendent
